More thoughts about Style keyword for Project
I have been researching my keyword for our online projects and have found a few interesting bits of information to contemplate.
- What is the Internet used for most? Entertainment, Business, Shopping, Etc? How does style affect each category of usage or does it?
- How creative can you be with style in a website without affecting the usability of the webpage?
Due to the Internet being a fairly recent frontier of exploration,(at least in terms of usage by everyday people) I have to wonder if this is the primary reason so many websites are not set up with effective style in mind? When something new comes along, people break out the creative juice and see how drunk they can get. When it is finally revealed that "hey, this website sucks", then change and some sort of standard are brought in to guide a designer on style elements.
I'll think of more later...

Yes, those are the exact questions I ask when I read some popular prescriptions about style and usability. Collin Brooke has a nice post about Jakob Nielsen's take on usability for weblogs. Seems to me that applying Nielsen's guidelines would smack down creativity pretty good.
