So, do you wanna go like Interface, or what?

When I think of Interface, I definitely think of a human interacting with an object. Driving a car, typing on the computer, making coffee, etc. By definition, it can also mean an interaction between humans. However, there are tons of other terms that sum up human interaction so I think that Interface more commonly deals with input and output between technology (if you will) and humans. Doesn't it seem that if we stretch any term to it's limits we can include definitions that usually do not pertain to the term. In a way it is comparable to the intrepretation of a text, you may see something within the text that others are- a) not aware or knowledgable of or b)they have a more solid interpretation of their own that hinders their ability to see your meaning. Interface, like many of our other keywords seems to encompass a ton of information. Dilger's pen today was a fantastic example of the huge concepts that exist in the interaction between human and pen. I think most of us just pick the darn thing up and write without consciously thinking of the Interface needed to do so. It reminds me of the "Pencils to Pixels" article we read when the author describes the huge amount of thought and skill required to produce a simple writing utensil that is now sold by the billions. We really take advantage of stuff, you know it?

I definitely think of human to object (or technology) interaction when I think of interface as well. I tend to agree with you that there are some positive and some negative consequences of thinking of the term in a broader sense. I have a difficult time seeing it in a broader sense. As for the pen example, I get it, but I do take it for granted. Do I really care? Should I?

I don't think we can care Julie in a conscious way. Can you imagine how much thought process would need to occur if we dissected every action in our life?? Now I am going to pick up the pencil. Now I am going to put it in between my thumb and my first finger. Now I am....you get it.

You're probably right, Trisha, but what would happen if we never thought about it?, not even once, academically, in a class or something- like we are doing now? Are there consequences for that?

Absolutely, I believe there are consequences. I think that there is a starting point when we must think about in order to learn it. When it becomes as simple as breathing, then we tend to take it for granted. Without the initial thought process though, we are left in the dark.
